Anupam Kher
Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher recently shared a fascinating and inspiring decision about his lifestyle. Despite being a millionaire, he continues to live in a rented house. This choice is not due to any financial limitation but is a conscious decision shaped by his life experiences and evolving priorities.
In a recent conversation, Kher explained that he has always valued emotions and simplicity over material possessions. He shared a heartfelt story about fulfilling his mother’s wish. She had spent nearly 60 years living in rented homes and expressed a desire to own a small one-bedroom house in Shimla. However, Kher went a step further and bought her an eight-bedroom house with a hall. According to him, this was not just about providing a home but about setting an emotional example—showing how important it is to fulfill the dreams of loved ones.
Anupam Kher believes that human needs are limited. In his view, having a place to live is essential, but whether it is owned or rented does not significantly impact one’s quality of life. To explain his perspective, he referenced Gautam Buddha, who gave up a life of luxury to embrace simplicity. While Kher does not claim to be a saint, he emphasized that a person’s mindset evolves over time.
He also revealed that about 10 years ago, he made a firm decision not to own a house. Following this philosophy, he sold his property, which was later purchased by actress Alia Bhatt. Reports suggest that the deal involved two apartments in Mumbai’s Juhu area.
Kher clarified that his decision is not just about simplicity but also rooted in practicality. He believes that property often becomes a source of conflict after a person’s death. He mentioned having seen several cases where elderly individuals were either forced out of their homes by their own children or pressured into signing wills. To avoid such situations, he chose to keep his life light and free from potential disputes.
His wife, Kirron Kher, initially took some time to adjust to this perspective, but she now supports his decision. She owns a house in Chandigarh, where she stays due to her political responsibilities.
Anupam Kher also credited late industrialist Ratan Tata as an influence on his thinking. He pointed out that despite his immense success, Tata lived a simple life, which serves as a powerful inspiration.
In a time when most people chase wealth, luxury, and property, Anupam Kher’s decision reflects a different mindset. He believes that living a simple, peaceful, and conflict-free life is far more valuable than accumulating assets.
