Akshaye Khanna
Following the growing popularity of Dhurandhar, fans of Akshaye Khanna have something exciting to look forward to. The actor, who impressed audiences with his powerful performance in the film, is now gearing up for a striking new role in the upcoming mythological drama Mahakali. What makes the development even more interesting is that the film is now set to release in Hindi as well, expanding its reach to a wider audience across the country.
Many viewers who admired Khanna’s intense screen presence in Dhurandhar were disappointed by his absence in its sequel. However, the announcement of Mahakali has reignited excitement among his fans. Known for choosing unconventional and layered roles, Khanna is once again stepping into a unique character that promises depth and complexity.
In Mahakali, Akshaye Khanna will be seen portraying Shukracharya, the legendary guru of the asuras in Hindu mythology. This role marks his debut in Telugu cinema, a significant milestone in his career. Initially planned as a regional release, the makers have now confirmed a Hindi version of the film, especially after witnessing the positive reception of Dhurandhar in southern markets. This move is expected to boost the film’s visibility and attract a pan-India audience.
Khanna’s transformation for the film has already generated buzz online. After showcasing a different avatar in Chhaava, the actor has undergone yet another dramatic makeover for this mythological project. His look as Shukracharya features long white hair, a flowing beard, and a regal yet intense aura. The first glimpse of his character was revealed through a poster, which immediately caught the attention of fans. Later, a behind-the-scenes still provided a clearer view of his costume and detailed styling, further increasing anticipation.
Filmmaker Prasanth Varma, who is spearheading the project, has openly praised Khanna’s dedication and talent. Sharing the actor’s look on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Varma described him as a “true actor” who proves that genuine talent doesn’t require excessive noise or hype. He highlighted Khanna’s effortless screen presence, powerful performances, and unmatched class—qualities that make him stand out in the industry.
In another post, Varma expressed his excitement about collaborating with the actor, calling it an honour and teasing the audience about the scale of the film. His comments suggest that Mahakali is not just another mythological drama but a large-scale cinematic venture.
The film stars Bhoomi Shetty in the titular role, positioning it as a female-led superhero narrative rooted in mythology. Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru and conceptualised by Prasanth Varma, the project is part of the expanding Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe. This cinematic universe began with the success of Hanu-Man and aims to build a series of interconnected stories blending mythology and superhero elements.
The PVCU is steadily growing, with upcoming films like Adhira and Jai Hanuman already in development. With actors like S. J. Suryah, Dasari Kalyan, and Rishab Shetty involved in the broader universe, the franchise is shaping up to be a major player in Indian cinema.
With a compelling storyline, strong performances, and an expanding cinematic universe, Mahakali is poised to become one of the most anticipated releases. The addition of a Hindi version only amplifies expectations, making it a film to watch out for in the coming months.
