Akshay Kumar
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has opened up about the financial advice he once gave his co-star Rajpal Yadav, as the latter continues to face legal issues in a long-standing cheque bounce case. The discussion came up during promotions for their upcoming film Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, which is scheduled to release on April 10.
Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles have been ongoing for years and recently escalated when he surrendered at Tihar Jail in February 2026. This followed a decision by the Delhi High Court, which declined to grant him further relief. The case dates back to 2010, when the actor reportedly took a loan of ₹5 crore to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. Over time, due to interest and penalties, the amount ballooned to nearly ₹9 crore. Unfortunately, the film, released in 2012, failed to perform well at the box office, adding to his financial difficulties.
Speaking about the situation, Akshay Kumar revealed that he had advised Rajpal against stepping into film production in the first place. According to Akshay, acting and producing are entirely different domains, each requiring its own expertise and understanding. He stressed that individuals should be cautious about entering unfamiliar territories, especially when significant financial risks are involved. In his view, actors should focus on honing their craft rather than chasing opportunities that promise quick monetary returns without adequate preparation.
Akshay also referenced the perspective of veteran actor Asrani, who had often warned actors about the challenges of film production. Echoing this sentiment, Akshay said that the advice remains relevant regardless of how experienced or successful someone may be in the film industry. He emphasized that even established names are not immune to the complexities and risks associated with producing films.
Despite the serious nature of the situation, Akshay spoke warmly about Rajpal Yadav’s talent and dedication as an actor. He praised Rajpal’s ability to go beyond expectations in his performances, noting that he often brings an extra spark that elevates scenes. Akshay also highlighted the strong on-screen chemistry they share, mentioning that some of their most memorable moments have been spontaneous rather than scripted. He expressed hope that Rajpal would overcome this challenging phase and return to doing what he does best—entertaining audiences.
Director Priyadarshan also weighed in on the matter, offering a more measured perspective based on his own experience in the industry. Having directed nearly 98 films, he pointed out that he has never ventured into production himself. According to him, this decision reflects a conscious understanding of the financial risks involved. He reiterated that even seasoned professionals should think carefully before taking on roles outside their core expertise, particularly when it involves large-scale investments.
Priyadarshan also spoke fondly of his creative collaboration with Rajpal Yadav over the years. He described their partnership as deeply rooted in comedy and timing, elements that have contributed to several successful films. Talking about Bhooth Bangla, he revealed that the dynamic between Akshay Kumar and Rajpal Yadav in the film is reminiscent of the classic “Tom and Jerry” style of humor, promising audiences a mix of chaos, wit, and entertainment.
As the film gears up for release, the conversation around Rajpal Yadav’s legal challenges has added a layer of real-life drama to the promotions. While the situation remains difficult, both Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have shown support for their colleague, emphasizing his talent while also reflecting on the lessons to be learned from his experience.
