Trisha Krishnan
Rumours surrounding Trisha Krishnan and her possible entry into politics have once again gained momentum after reports suggested that leaders of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam are trying to convince the actress to join the party. The speculation comes at a time when actor-turned-politician Vijay is making headlines following his party’s strong performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
According to reports, TVK leaders want Trisha to contest from the Tiruchirappalli East constituency if a by-election takes place in the coming weeks. Vijay, who contested and won from both Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East, will reportedly have to vacate one seat, as election rules do not allow a candidate to retain two constituencies.
Party insiders are said to be advising Vijay to keep the Perambur seat because his victory margin there was significantly larger and the constituency is strategically closer to the state secretariat. If Vijay vacates the Tiruchirappalli East seat, a by-election will be announced, opening the possibility for a new candidate to represent the party.
This has led to growing rumours that Trisha Krishnan could be the face TVK chooses for the bypoll. However, sources close to the actress claim that she is not very interested in entering politics at the moment. Unlike many political figures in Tamil Nadu, Trisha does not come from a political family background and has largely stayed away from political discussions throughout her career.
Despite this, the rumours have caught the attention of fans because of Trisha’s long association with Vijay in the film industry. The two actors have shared screen space in popular films including Leo, and their off-screen friendship has often sparked media attention.
Interestingly, an old interview clip of Trisha has resurfaced online amid the ongoing political speculation. During a 2004 interaction with Sun TV, the actress jokingly said that she wanted to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu someday.
“I want to become the CM of Tamil Nadu. Honestly! Wait and watch, you will see in 10 years,” she had said in a light-hearted manner during the interview. When asked what she would do if she entered politics, Trisha playfully responded, “First, you all vote and elect me, then I’ll tell you.”
Although the comments were clearly made as a joke, the video has gone viral once again due to the current rumours linking her with Vijay’s political party.
Meanwhile, Vijay’s political journey has become one of the most talked-about developments in Tamil Nadu politics. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, emerged as the single-largest party after winning 108 seats in the Assembly elections. However, the party still remains short of the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.
Reports suggest that Vijay has sought support from Congress legislators to strengthen his claim to form the government. Even then, TVK is believed to be a few seats away from achieving a comfortable majority. If Vijay resigns from one constituency, the party’s effective strength in the Assembly will reduce further.
Political analysts believe that bringing a well-known celebrity like Trisha into politics could help TVK attract younger voters and strengthen its image among urban audiences. However, as of now, neither Trisha nor the party has officially confirmed the reports about her political debut.
Until an official announcement is made, speculation about Trisha Krishnan entering politics through Vijay’s TVK is likely to continue dominating entertainment and political discussions across Tamil Nadu.
