Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wrapped up a highly eventful IPL 2026 mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16, emerging as one of the most talked-about franchises of the day. With a clear strategy and a strong purse, the five-time champions snapped up nine players and completed their squad well before the close of proceedings.
The highlight of CSK’s auction campaign was the record-setting signings of Indian uncapped talents Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma. Both youngsters were acquired for a staggering Rs 14.2 crore each, making them the joint most expensive uncapped players ever bought in IPL auction history. Prashant Veer first grabbed headlines when CSK placed the winning bid, and moments later, Kartik Sharma matched that figure, underlining the franchise’s confidence in young Indian talent.
Apart from these headline-grabbing purchases, CSK made several smart additions to strengthen different departments of the squad. The franchise brought in West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein, New Zealand pacer Matt Henry, Australia’s Matthew Short, Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, batter Sarfaraz Khan, all-rounder Aman Khan, and New Zealand’s Zak Foulkes. These signings add depth, balance, and flexibility to an already experienced lineup.
CSK entered the auction with the second-largest purse of Rs 43.4 crore and managed their finances efficiently, ending the day with Rs 2.4 crore still in hand. Importantly, all available player slots — including overseas quotas — were filled, giving the team a settled and well-rounded squad ahead of IPL 2026.
Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and bolstered by the presence of MS Dhoni, the CSK squad blends seasoned campaigners with promising youngsters. With a mix of explosive batters, reliable all-rounders, and varied bowling options, Chennai Super Kings now look well-prepared to mount another strong title challenge in the upcoming season.
