The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has declined to grant anticipatory bail to Bhojpuri singer and YouTuber Neha Singh Rathore, who is facing legal action over alleged objectionable comments directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The case stems from a complaint filed earlier this year at the Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow. Rathore’s remarks, made in an April social media post linked to the Pahalgam terror attack, were alleged to be indecent and capable of inciting caste-based disharmony. She has already encountered multiple FIRs across Uttar Pradesh for similar accusations.
According to the complaint, Rathore’s April 23 post criticized the Modi-led government, alleging that its politics relied on caste and religion. The case also referenced the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali citizen.
Rathore’s Defense
In a previous conversation with ANI, Rathore stood by her statements, stating that her words had been misunderstood and taken out of context. She explained that she had questioned the Prime Minister regarding security failures leading to the attack and insisted that her statement was not a song but a direct plea for better tourist safety.
“That was not a song; it was a statement about the Pahalgam incident where many people lost their lives. I asked the PM about the security arrangements for tourists. For this, complaints and FIRs have been registered against me in several places,” Rathore told ANI.
Details of the Complaint
The complaint was filed by poet Abhay Pratap Singh, also known as Abhay Singh, who alleged that Rathore’s posts risked spreading divisive sentiments and anti-national narratives.
