Former England captain Michael Vaughan had a narrow escape during the deadly mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday. Vaughan, who is in Australia as a broadcaster for the Ashes 2025–26 series, revealed that he was trapped inside a restaurant in Bondi when two armed attackers opened fire, leaving 12 people dead and several others injured.
Sharing his experience on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Vaughan described the incident as frightening but confirmed that he later managed to return home safely. He also expressed gratitude towards emergency responders and praised a brave civilian who confronted one of the attackers during the chaos.
“Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary… now home safe. Huge thanks to the emergency services and the man who confronted the terrorist. My thoughts are with everyone affected,” Vaughan wrote.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media shows a courageous bystander tackling an armed suspect and managing to disarm him. The clip, lasting around 90 seconds, captures the moment the man overpowers the gunman, who is believed to be one of the attackers involved in the shooting.
