Delhi Student Suicide Case: The Delhi Police on Tuesday questioned the headmistress of St. Columba’s School, a week after a 16-year-old student allegedly died by suicide by jumping from an elevated metro station in west Delhi. The investigation has intensified as officers also spoke to two class teachers who, although not named in the family’s complaint, were associated with the student.
According to a senior officer, the teachers claimed they were unaware of any harassment and believed everything appeared normal. The headmistress has denied the accusations as well. “We will continue questioning other staff members as part of the inquiry,” the officer said.
The teenager had left behind a handwritten note accusing four staff members — the headmistress and three teachers — of repeatedly mistreating him. All four have been booked under abetment to suicide charges and were suspended by the school shortly after the incident came to light.
Police have also retrieved CCTV footage from the school, which they say supports some parts of the allegations mentioned in the note.
The student’s family will hold a mourning ceremony in Delhi’s Karol Bagh on the afternoon of November 26. The boy’s father said they could not hold a protest on Tuesday due to a gazetted holiday and the school being shut. “But we will continue our fight for justice. Our protest will resume from Thursday, and we won’t stop until justice is served,” he stated.
Investigators have also recorded statements from three boys listed as witnesses in the FIR, along with two more friends of the deceased, as they work to establish a clearer picture of the events leading up to the tragedy.
