Veteran actor and politician Kamal Haasan has sparked widespread discussion online after posting a direct message addressed to former US President Donald Trump amid rising tensions in the Middle East. In a strongly worded public letter shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor-politician urged the American leader to refrain from interfering in India’s internal affairs.
His statement comes at a time when geopolitical tensions have intensified due to developments involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The remarks quickly gained traction across social media platforms, drawing reactions from political commentators, film fans, and internet users.
The comment also comes as the United States recently announced a 30-day temporary waiver allowing Indian refineries to continue purchasing Russian energy, a decision that has added another dimension to ongoing diplomatic discussions.
‘India does not take orders from foreign shores’
In his message, Kamal Haasan emphasised that India is a sovereign nation that makes its own decisions without outside influence. Addressing Trump directly, he wrote that foreign leaders should focus on their own responsibilities instead of commenting on India’s internal matters.
According to Haasan, mutual respect between sovereign nations is essential for maintaining global stability and peace. He argued that lasting diplomatic relations must be built on respect and non-interference rather than attempts to influence another country’s policies.
Reminder of India’s independence
The actor also referenced India’s historical struggle for independence, highlighting that the country is no longer subject to external control. He stressed that modern India is a free nation that cannot be directed by powers from abroad.
Kamal Haasan added that India’s position on international matters must come from within the country itself, not from what he described as “distant foreign shores.”
A message about diplomacy
Beyond the direct criticism, Haasan’s letter carried a broader message about global diplomacy. He said international peace depends on restraint and respect among nations, rather than interference in each other’s domestic affairs.
The letter was signed by Haasan as a “proud Indian citizen” and as the founder of his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, which he launched in 2018 with a focus on governance reforms and transparency.
Active in politics and cinema
Despite his growing involvement in politics, Kamal Haasan continues to remain active in cinema. The 71-year-old actor, known for his influential career across multiple Indian film industries, continues to balance his political engagement with acting projects.
He is set to reprise his role as the antagonist Yaskin in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. Reports also suggest that he may reunite with longtime colleague Rajinikanth in an upcoming film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, marking a rare collaboration between the two legendary stars after many years.
