The upcoming action sequel Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is already creating massive buzz at the box office even before its theatrical release. Starring Ranveer Singh, the film has reportedly crossed ₹18 crore in advance bookings for its paid previews, putting it on track to challenge the record held by Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film OG, which earned around ₹25 crore through paid preview sales.
The excitement around the film surged after the trailer was released on March 7. At the same time, the makers opened advance bookings for paid previews scheduled for March 18, allowing fans to watch the film a day before its worldwide theatrical release on March 19.
Strong Start for Advance Bookings
The response from audiences has been extraordinary. According to early trade data, the film sold nearly 80,000 tickets on Sunday alone, adding approximately ₹8 crore to its domestic advance booking total. This surge came after a strong opening day of ticket sales when bookings went live alongside the trailer launch.
Within the first 24 hours of opening its bookings, the film sold more than 1.2 lakh tickets, generating over ₹10 crore in advance sales. The steady demand from moviegoers continued through the weekend, pushing the total advance booking collection to ₹18.11 crore, according to box office tracking platform Sacnilk.
Out of the total amount, nearly ₹6 crore came from block bookings, while the remaining ₹12.30 crore was generated through the sale of over 2,06,000 tickets.
Hindi Version Leading the Sales
The Hindi version of the film is dominating ticket sales across the country. Reports suggest that the Hindi format alone has contributed roughly ₹12 crore in advance collections from nearly 1,94,000 tickets.
Premium format screenings are also gaining traction. The Dolby Cine version has earned around ₹64,050 from 80 tickets, indicating strong interest in high-end theatrical experiences among audiences eager to watch the action spectacle on the big screen.
Dubbed Versions Showing Growth
Among the dubbed releases, the Tamil version has taken an early lead, earning approximately ₹9.9 lakh from over 7,300 tickets. It has slightly edged ahead of the Telugu version, which has collected around ₹9.6 lakh from nearly 3,900 tickets.
In the Telugu market, however, Dhurandhar 2 will face stiff competition from filmmaker Harish Shankar’s action film Ustaad Bhagat Singh, also starring Pawan Kalyan. The film is scheduled to release during the festive period of Eid, Ugadi, and Gudi Padwa, which traditionally sees high cinema footfall.
Meanwhile, the Malayalam dubbed version has collected around ₹96,000 from 338 tickets, while the Kannada version has registered around ₹67,000 from 198 tickets, making it the smallest contributor so far.
Benefit From ‘Toxic’ Postponement
Initially, Dhurandhar 2 was expected to clash with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups, the highly anticipated action thriller starring Yash and directed by Geethu Mohandas. However, the release of Toxic has now been postponed to June 4, reportedly due to global disruptions related to the ongoing Gulf tensions.
The postponement has provided Dhurandhar 2 with more breathing space in several markets, especially in the Kannada belt where Yash commands a massive fan following.
New Record for Bollywood Premiere Advance
Even with more than 10 days remaining before its paid preview screenings, Dhurandhar 2 has already set a new record for the biggest Bollywood premiere advance booking.
The film has surpassed the previous benchmark set by Stree 2, the 2024 horror-comedy directed by Amar Kaushik and starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. That film had earned around ₹8.5 crore gross (about ₹10 crore net) from advance bookings for its paid previews.
In comparison, Dhurandhar 2 crossed that milestone within the first 24 hours of opening ticket sales.
Could Challenge ‘OG’ Preview Record
Trade analysts believe the current momentum could push the film’s preview collections close to or even beyond ₹25 crore, which would put it in contention to beat the paid preview record of OG.
With advance bookings for the opening weekend yet to begin, industry observers expect the numbers to rise sharply as the release date approaches and the promotional campaign intensifies.
Even at its current ₹18 crore advance booking figure, the film has already surpassed the lifetime domestic box office earnings of several Hindi releases this year, highlighting the massive anticipation surrounding the sequel.
If the current trend continues, Dhurandhar 2 could emerge as one of the biggest Bollywood openings of the year.
