The BJP on Saturday claimed that remarks made by Sam Pitroda have exposed the Congress party’s association with what it described as an “anti-India” international network. According to the ruling party, Pitroda’s comments suggested that Congress holds a position in the Global Progressive Alliance (GPA) and that Rahul Gandhi regularly travels abroad to participate in its activities with hopes of regaining power at the Centre.
Addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said Pitroda — head of the Congress’ overseas wing — stated in a recent television interview that the party is officially part of the GPA and that Rahul Gandhi had attended one of its meetings in Germany.
Trivedi further alleged that the GPA is connected to groups that, in his words, promote “anti-India narratives.” He demanded that the Congress clarify what role it plays within the alliance.
The BJP leader also claimed that Gandhi is “dreaming of returning to power with the help of forces opposed to India,” referring to Gandhi’s meeting with Cornellia Woll of the Hertie School during his Germany visit. He pointed out that Woll serves as a trustee of the Central European University, which is supported by the Open Society Foundation led by billionaire George Soros.
Trivedi recalled that at the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Soros announced major funding to strengthen civil society and challenge nationalist governments, mentioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his remarks.
According to Trivedi, Pitroda also described the GPA as representing democracies across 110 countries. Questioning the claim, he asked the Congress to identify these nations, alleging that they try to undermine India despite projecting themselves as democratic states.
