Mukesh Khanna
Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna has recently opened up about not being part of the much-anticipated sequel to the cult comedy Hera Pheri. Despite being associated with the original film, Khanna revealed that he was never approached for Hera Pheri 2, a decision that surprised many fans who remember his memorable presence in the franchise.
In a candid conversation, Khanna shared that while other actors from the original cast were brought back, he was left out. However, he clarified that he holds no bitterness about it. According to him, if he had been approached, he would have certainly considered being part of the sequel. At the same time, he maintained that he does not regret missing out, suggesting that everything happens for a reason.
Reflecting on why he might not have been included, Khanna hinted at a past disagreement with the producer during the making of the original film. He mentioned that there were issues related to the producer’s attitude, which may have influenced the situation. However, instead of confronting the makers or questioning their decision, Khanna chose to remain silent and move forward. He emphasized that he never felt the need to ask why he wasn’t cast again.
The actor also fondly recalled his experience working on Hera Pheri, particularly the audience’s reaction to his scenes. He remembered how viewers would cheer and laugh during his comic sequences, especially when he was chased by Om Puri’s character. Khanna noted that fans often associated him with his iconic superhero role from Shaktimaan, making his comedic moments even more entertaining for audiences.
While discussing the sequel, Khanna acknowledged that it is possible his character was simply not required in the new storyline. He suggested that the filmmakers might have chosen to take the narrative in a different direction, which could explain his absence. Rather than dwelling on the past, he appeared to accept the situation with maturity and perspective.
Khanna also addressed ongoing claims about Akshay Kumar, one of the lead actors of the franchise, particularly regarding the rumor that he does not memorize his dialogues. Having worked with Akshay in several films, including Saugandh, Amaanat, and International Khiladi, Khanna dismissed such claims. He stated that in his experience, Akshay has always been professional and well-prepared on set.
According to Khanna, Akshay’s demanding schedule may sometimes give the impression that he relies on prompts or improvisation, but that does not mean he lacks dedication. On the contrary, Khanna described him as a hardworking and committed actor who takes his craft seriously. His remarks highlight a sense of respect for Akshay’s discipline and work ethic.
Interestingly, Khanna also revealed that he had once approached Akshay Kumar with a unique film idea. The concept revolved around a political drama featuring a paanwala who influences Parliament—a storyline Khanna found compelling. While Akshay listened to the narration, he eventually declined the project, stating that he would not be able to take it up. Khanna noted that Akshay has become more selective about his roles over time.
The role, Khanna added, was initially envisioned for the late Irrfan Khan, known for his exceptional acting skills. However, after Irrfan’s untimely demise, the project faced setbacks and could not move forward as planned.
Mukesh Khanna’s reflections offer a glimpse into the complexities of the film industry, where professional relationships and creative decisions often shape casting outcomes.
